RENEGADE
[ country-rock; co-written by Daniel Muhammad ]
I cruise from town to town on this highway without end
A barroom is my only home, this bike’s my only friend
My pledge of allegiance is to the open road
Lookin’ for some freedom from life on overload
They call me an outlaw 'cause I live life in the shade
Branded in the crosshairs of folks who’ve got it made
Just like them a broken man who failed to make the grade
Went up against the council, now they call me renegade
John the baptist was a drifter who lived outside of town
Some pretended to be better, they liked to put him down
Caught between a rock and their narrow-minded code
Lookin’ for some freedom from life on overload
Yeah, they called him an outlaw 'cause he lived life in the shade
Branded in the crosshairs of folks who had it made
Just like us a broken man who failed to make the grade
Went up against the council and they called him renegade
They turn God into religions an' make gods out of men
Wrap the truth in stain glass, re-crucify the sinners' friend
Whoa, they call us outlaws 'cause we live life in the shade
Branded in the crosshairs of folks who’ve got it made
Like all the rest, broken men who failed to make the grade
Went up against the council, now they call us renegade
Yeah, go up against the council, they call you renegade
