WHAT I KNOW RIGHT NOW
[ country; co-written by Daniel Muhammad ]

Born into a sheltered past, defined black and white
In my mind’s eye reasons why were plainly wrong an’ right
A simple time back when hope’s great rainbow had no end
If I could only take back now what I didn’t know back then

If I only knew back then what I know right now
Might take life easier and be kinder somehow
Treat folks decently as I wish they would treat me
If I only knew back then what I know right now

If I could forget now what I didn’t know back then
Might sleep well tonight, hope for a new day to begin
Find a way that’s better, care less ‘bout what don’t matter
If I could forget now what I didn’t know back then

If I only knew back then what I know right now
Might take life easier and be kinder somehow
Listen patiently an’ be a little less hard on me
If I only knew back then what I know right now

Instead of takin’ care of today, we make big plans for tomorrow
And end up learnin’ the hard way the lessons of life’s sorrow

If I only knew back then what I know right now
Might take life easier and be kinder somehow
Be a better friend, feel good about life once again
If I only knew back then what I know right now
What I know right now, what I know right now
